I recently saw this news tidbit about this case which is being
handled by an attorney named Loren John. I was wondering if this was the same Loren John that used to be from these parts? Does anyone know if this is the same Loren John? If so, how do people like Loren John Williams’ attorney sleep with themselves at night when they are trying to free murders like this person?
PRISON INMATE SEEKS TO UNDO LEGAL CHALLENGE
An Anne Arundel County man serving a prison sentence for murder is seeking to undo the results of a legal challenge that backfired. A lawyer for Tyrone Craig Williams of Annapolis Maryland who was sentenced last year to 40 years in prison had asked a three-judge panel to review that decision. But the panel, rather than reducing the sentence, determined that another 20 years were in order.
Loren John, Williams' new lawyer says the order for a new sentence should be invalidated because the convicted murderer never signed the petition for a three judge panel review. Although judges in post-conviction sentencing proceedings can cut but not increase jail time, three-judge panels can do either. Prosecutor Michael Dunty argued Thursday that although Williams did not sign the petition, he was fully aware of what a three-judge panel entailed and never objected to the proceedings, even as the state contended that Williams’ sentence should be raised.
The panel judges did rule Thursday on the motion of defense attorney Loren John, saying that they needed more time to review records. Williams, 40, of Annapolis, Md, was sentenced to life in prison with all but 35 years suspended for his first-degree murder conviction in the 2007 shooting of his nephew, John Williams, at an Annapolis Land & Property real estate office. Williams was initially charged with 1st degree murder and one count of child abuse charge since the teenage victim was under 18 years old at the time of the crime.
Loren John, Williams' third attorney since the saga began argued that Williams was abandoned by his parents as a young boy and was taken in by his uncle who sexually abused the young boy.
Shocking the court at times with horrific tales of both child abuse and sexual child abuse as a young boy and as a teenager Loren John pleaded for the court's mercy on Williams.
Williams’ trouble began when he broke into the Annapolis office of a known pornographer and suspected pedophile and stole a video camera and digital camera. When he pawned the items in John Williams' name, he violated the parole of his nephew. Once his nephew learned of this, he confronted his uncle, Tyrone Williams. A fight ensued and Tyrone Williams ended up shooting the teen aged John Williams.
The court has 30 days to render it’s decision on whether it will or will not invalidate the increase in Williams time.
